This index, <strong>measuring the competitiveness <\/strong>of 189 countries across 14 macrosectors of global trade, is based on five sub-indicators for each sector, providing a thorough analysis of trade dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>The five sub-indicators for each of the 14 macrosectors are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sectoral trade balance of each country.<\/li>\n<li>Per capita sectoral exports.<\/li>\n<li>Country&#8217;s share in global exports for each sector.<\/li>\n<li>Level of diversification for each country in terms of the number of products exported.<\/li>\n<li>Level of market diversification for each country in each sector.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Italy<\/strong> stands out significantly on the international stage, securing various top positions in the 2021 ranking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First place in competitiveness in <strong>clothing and leather goods<\/strong>, leading the sector globally.<\/li>\n<li>Second place in <strong>textiles<\/strong> and, notably, in non-electronic machinery, surpassed only by Germany.<\/li>\n<li>Third place in <strong>basic manufacturing<\/strong>, electrical and electronic products, and other manufacturing.<\/li>\n<li>Fourth place in processed<strong> food and transportation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Fifth place in <strong>wood<\/strong> and paper.<\/li>\n<li>Eighth place in <strong>chemicals<\/strong> and pharmaceuticals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another relevant aspect is the <strong>diversification<\/strong> of exports in terms of products, highlighted by the <strong>Competitive Excellence Index (IEC<\/strong>) from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazioneedison.it\/it\/attivita\/altre-pubblicazioni\/approfondimenti-statistici\/italia-prima-al-mondo-per-differenziazione-dellexport\/at_download\/attachment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Edison Foundation<\/a> for 2021. The analysis of individual products, totaling 5,388, reveals that Italy is among<strong> the top five<\/strong> countries globally for a positive trade balance, amounting to $104 billion, across 1,526 products.<\/p>\n<p>The significant diversification of Italian exports is further confirmed by another index: <strong>the Concentration Ratio (CR)<\/strong>. It is evident that the <strong>top 50 products<\/strong> exported by Italy account for only <strong>29.7%<\/strong> of the total export, placing Italy at the top of the G-20.
